Dr Saud Ibrahim - Principal Dentist
BDS MSc PG Diploma Oral Implants (University of Sydney)
Graduating from the University of Baghdad in 1989, Saud went on to complete his Masters (Graduating with Distinction) in Conservative Dentistry in 1996. Never one to shy away from a challenge Saud followed that by immigrating to New Zealand in 1997. Passing his New Zealand Registration exams was closely followed by purchasing the Chartwell Dental Centre in 2000. He set up Rototuna Dental Centre in 2007.
Happily married to his lovely wife, Saud has four children. In his spare time he likes to keep fit running & coaching soccer. A keen spectator too, Saud was the “Ground Dentist” for the All Blacks at Waikato Stadium in 2010. Naturally he’s an enthusiastic Chiefs supporter, believing they’re “always the best”! Travelling & cooking are also amongst his favourite things to do.
Ongoing education has continued to be a priority for Saud, enabling him to increase his skill and experience in the many different fields of dentistry. He gained a further qualification in 2005, a Post Graduate Diploma in Oral Implants, from the University of Sydney.
Cosmetic and implant dentistry are areas of interest and expertise for Saud. A very experienced practitioner Saud has a gift for treating children. Add to this his great sense of humour, it’s no wonder he enjoys meeting new people and putting his patients at ease.
Saud is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Endodontic Society & the Australian Osseo-integration Society.
Dr Alan Miller
Alan graduated from the dental school of the University of Pretoria in 1985, and was the first recipient of the OralB® medal for outstanding achievement in the field of dental materials. Alan also had the honour of presenting a paper he co-authored at the 1985 International Congress of the IADR (International Association of Dental Research) held in Pretoria.
After completing three years’ service in the South African Medical Corps as a Captain, Alan had a private dental practice in Pietermaritzburg, his birth town, for nine years. He immigrated to New Zealand in 1999 and ran his private practice in Hamilton for 13 years before moving his practice to join the team at Chartwell Dental Centre.
Alan enjoys cosmetic and restorative dentistry and endodontics (root canal treatments). Always one to keep up with modern technology Alan now uses a dental microscope and has a special interest in soft tissue laser use and ‘same day’ computer designed and milled ceramic dental restorations using the E4D system.
Alan is the proud father of two children, a son and a daughter. In his spare time he enjoys dancing, cycling and flying gliders at the Piako Gliding Club.
He is also a member of the New Zealand Dental Association, NZ Endodontic Society and NZ Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and has dental laser use certification from the University of Queensland. Alan is a past Secretary of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the NZDA and currently still serves on the Executive as Branch Advisory Officer and maintains the Branch’s membership database.
Graduated from the University of Otago Faculty of Dentistry in 2004 and has been working in Chartwell Dental Centre since 2007. This has allowed her to gain valuable experience in a wide scope of dental hygiene practice. She strives to help prevent oral disease and enjoys assisting patients in achieving optimal oral health outcomes. She also helps in improving the appearance of their teeth through stain removal, zoom in-chair whitening and take home whitening procedures. She keeps herself up-to-date by attending the NZ Dental Hygiene Association conference annually.
Karen was born and grew up in rural Canterbury, attending Ashburton College before joining the NZ Defence Force as a dental assistant. She soon developed a keen interest in dental hygiene and was accepted on the Dental Hygienist course at the Royal NZ Dental Corps school in Burnham Military Camp, graduating in 1987. She continued to work as a dental hygienist in both the regular and territorial forces of the army up until 2003, gaining valuable experience in a wide scope of hygiene practice.
Being involved in civil aid projects providing dental treatment for people who were disadvantaged or living in isolated areas allowed exposure to extremes in treatment requirements not often seen in private practice. She also spent some time treating NZ personnel in Singapore and participated in a Mutual Aid Programme (MAP) instructing at the Navy dental school in Jakarta, Indonesia. The experience gained through the military has proved to be of considerable benefit to my patients.
Karen moved to Hamiltonin 2006 to provide independent dental hygiene services to Hamiltonians. Karen owns and runs an online oral care product service called Widesmile. She is also a Past-President of the NZ Dental Hygienist’s Association.
Karen enjoys working with a wide variety of people and actively endeavours to make the dental experience as enjoyable as possible while still providing the best possible treatment for patients in her care. She offers each patient the best advice, and all options for their individual needs are fully discussed. She has the training and experience to provide sound treatment for advanced gum problems and accepts referrals for treatment of people who may not be able to afford or need specialist care. She can also help with improving the appearance of your teeth with in-chair and take home whitening procedures, and re-contouring of existing fillings if required.
Dr Josephine Ahn
Dr Josephine Ahn graduated from the University of Otago, Faculty of Dentistry in 2009. Prior to joining Chartwell Dental Centre, Josephine worked at Invercargill Hospital as the Dental House Surgeon where she provided a wide range of treatments with emphasis on oral surgery.
Over the years, she has developed a strong interest in minor oral surgery, dental implants and prosthodontics and progressive orthodontic treatment. She also enjoys doing restorative dentistry and treating children under government schemes. Additionally, Josephine offers a range of different sedation types for patients who would benefit from it during treatment. She puts strong emphasis on developing treatment plans to meet patients’ needs according to their financial status. She is gentle and caring with her approach in providing dental treatment.
Dr Yvonne Woon
Yvonne received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Otago in 2009. After graduation, she worked in a private practice in Levin providing health care to the Horowhenua and Kapiti district. She continued to hone her dental skills in Palmerston North before moving to Hamilton.
Yvonne enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and special interests in preventative and minimal intervention dentistry, cosmetic dentistry and oral surgery. She is a firm believer that if her patients’ understand their own oral health, they will be able to take control of his/her own oral health and in doing so, improve it. .
Yvonne's hobbies during her spare hours are painting, traveling, baking and cooking for anyone who is brave enough to try her "inventions".
Sally studied Bachelor of Oral Health at the University of Otago. She enjoys every single day working as a Dental Therapist/Hygienist!
She has a passion towards looking after children and adolescents, since she believes 'good self-oral care starts at an early age'. Also, she strongly encourages 'prevention' so that dental and gum diseases can be prevented before the need for treatment.
Sally enjoys singing and running during her freetime.

Dr Suzanne Tonkin
Suzanne attended Dunedin’s Otago University and graduated in 2003. She started working in the Chartwell Practice in 2006 and moved to the Rototuna Practice when it was established in 2007.
Suzanne enjoys all aspects of general dentistry from cosmetic work through to the more involved procedures like oral rehabilitation (crown and bridge, partial dentures, and implant restorations).She also enjoys endodontics (root canal treatment), general filling work and preventive measures.
She has special interests in paediatric and adolescent dentistry both in a private capacity and the government funded scheme. She also enjoys working with fearful and phobic patients to allow them to have more positive experience and enjoy the benefits of regular dental care. She is also keen in assisting people in working through their treatment plans in accordance with their financial limitations.
Suzanne was born and bred in the Waikato and is married with a daughter. She has worked exclusively in Hamilton and enjoys her well established practice.
Dr Spencer Lee
Spencer graduated from the University of Otago, Faculty of Dentistry in 2010. After graduating, he had worked for private practices in Bay of Plenty, Wairarapa and Auckland region. During this time he worked on developing his skills as a general dentist, meeting and treating diverse cultural and geographical populations.
Spencer enjoys all aspects of dentistry. He is interested in oral surgery including dental implants and prosthodontics work such as crowns and bridges. Spencer understands some of the fear that patients feel towards dentists and focuses on providing top quality care with empathy. He also provides oral or IV sedation to the patients who have difficulty receiving dental treatments.
In his free time, Spencer enjoys playing golf, tennis and snowboarding.
